This golf Club House has sought to capture the essential elements of traditional Kazakh design and re-express these in a contemporary form of architecture. The Yurt, a construction perfectly adapted to the environment of Kazakhstan, inspired the design of the Shushinsk Golf Club House. This project captures the essence of the Yurt and reinterprets it in a contemporary architectural form. The glazed walls of the Club House are screened by a timber lattice work that takes a diamond shaped trellis pattern. This provides generous views toward the surrounding golf course and landscape while establishing a method to screen incoming daylight and provide privacy to the interior. The structure is conceived to be used through-out the year and is responsive to the dramatic shifts in Kazakhstan’s weather conditions.
